When Kenneth Ricker Norris was born on June 1, 1914, in Melrose, Massachusetts, his father, Walter, was 37 and his mother, Ada, was 35. He married Ruth Dodge in 1939 in Swampscott, Massachusetts. They had three children during their marriage. He died on October 22, 1990, in his hometown at the age of 76, and was buried there.

Obituary

 Melrose Teacher, Administrator

Kenneth R. Norris, a teacher and administrator of Melrose High School for 34 years who served as chairman of the Melrose School Committee from 1979-81, died Monday in Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.  Mr. Norris joined Melrose High in 1942 as an English and social studies teacher.  He served as assistant principal from 1957 until his retirement in 1976.  He played a leading role in establishing the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund in 1961 and was the founding director of the Melrose summer school program in 1960-67.  In 1977 he was elected to a 4-year term on the city's school board. 

Mr. Norris graduated from Melrose High in 1932 and the University of New Hampshire in 1937. He received a master's degree in education at Boston University in 1959.  He leaves three sons, K. Scott of Plainfield, N.J., Steven D. of Brookline and John R. of South Boston; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. in First Congregational Church, Melrose.
