Melrose man killed when car hits tree.
A Melrose man was killed and another seriously injured Friday night when the car in which they were passengers struck a utility pole near 503 Broadway in Malden.  Police said Joseph Brown, 20 of 12 Mystic Av., was deal on arrival at Malden Hospital.  Joseph Stamegna, 18 of 25 Arlington St. a companion in the back seat of the 1969 Ford sedan, was reported in fair condition yesterday at Malden Hospital.  Police said the car smashed into the pole after rounding a curve on Broadway (Rte. 99) at 11:29 p.m.  The car, according to police, was operated by James French, 19, of 25 Montvale St. Melrose.  Brown was thrown from the front seat through the windshield police said.

Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., MELROSE, Tuesday Nov 30 at 8:15 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
