Obituary
DUFFY, Janice Marie Janice Marie Duffy
passed away at home on December 22, 2022, at the age
of 64. She died as she lived - enjoying a cup of
coffee and winning at the Wordle. Janice grew up in
Melrose with her late mother and father, Janice and
George, and her beloved brothers and sisters.
She excelled in school, though she held
a lifelong grudge against geometry, the only flavor of
mathematics to ever give her any trouble. Janice
graduated with a bachelor's from Brandeis University,
and a JD from Boston College Law School. During her
time at BC, she contributed to the Boston College Law
Review journal. She worked as an attorney for many
years at Bingham, Dana & Gould, where she excelled
handling the senior debt aspect of many large and
complex leveraged buyouts of notable companies across
a range of industries, representing longtime client,
The First National Bank of Boston. She next served as
Assistant General Counsel of State Street Bank in its
securities lending/custodial area. She also spent time
working in retail and food service, during which she
became a favorite of her coworkers due to her
generosity and her absolute refusal to take any crap
from rude customers.
Janice loved her children and accepted
each of them as they were. She allowed them to pillage
her belongings for middling in-house theatrical
productions. She loved Christmas. Every Christmas Eve,
she gifted her kids a new set of cozy pajamas. A very
stylish person herself, her choices were sometimes
bewildering but always cherished. She was a devoted
mom of many beloved pets, including Puff, Tigger,
Nikki, Sasha, and Benji, who filled her days with
antics and laughter. She loved The X-Files, Bruce
Springsteen, Bernie Taupin, Disney, Cumberland Farms
coffee, Anne Rice, Jeff Goldblum, social justice
causes, AM radio at the lowest volume, impressionist
painters, The Beatles, finding sand dollars on the
shore, and dunking on foolish people on Facebook. She
read every book she could get her hands on often on
the porch of the Duffy house at Hampton Beach and
spent long hours working on jigsaw puzzles and
cross-stitch patterns. She enjoyed seeing films and
theater performances with her family and never pulled
any punches in her critiques - describing one local
production, she was heard to say, "I've seen this one
before. I thought it was supposed to be funny." Her
wit and wry sense of humor brightened the days of her
friends and family. She could transform the mundane,
like Benji wandering out of the yard, into an odyssey.
She was a loving woman and a crucial ally in all
things. She was the beating heart of our family and
her loss will impact us for years to come in ways we
do not yet understand. She was all at once the best
mother a cat, dog, or human could ever hope to know.
She is survived by her children, Lindsay, Amelia,
Lucas, and Elena, as well as her sisters, Judith and
Barbara, her brothers, William and Kevin, her beloved
nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, her husband,
Steve Eimert, and her current crop of favorite little
furry buddies, Iggy, Izzy, Kitten, Shenanigans,
Reggie, Sonny & Cher (even if she never fully
approved of the latter two names). We'll miss her
forever.
Family & friends cordially invited
to a public viewing from 2-5 pm on Monday, January 2,
2023 at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St.,
