Obituary
Linus Charles O'Donnell of Boston,
entered into eternal rest surrounded by the love and
support of his wife, family, and friends on March 31,
2022. Linus fought a fierce and brave battle with
cancer over the last year, and he never gave up hope
even in his final days.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to have Linus in their
life was gifted with his generosity, humor, loyalty,
friendship and love. Tall, dark and handsome, he was
the life of the party and nothing meant more to him
than entertaining those he loved in Florida,
Nantucket, and Boston.
Linus was raised in Melrose, MA. He later attended
Deerfield Academy and Harvard University, where he
played football and received his degree in history.
Professionally, he was a commodities broker for CH
Murphy and Company, a family owned business, until his
retirement in 2007. He maintained enduring friendships
with his Melrose friends, and his teammates from
Harvard. He was an avid reader and history buff, and
could regale anyone with his knowledge of
international affairs and especially US political
history. He enjoyed travel but nothing rivaled his
love of Big Sur California, where he and his wife were
married. His passing is a profound loss for so many
people he touched with his kindness and love. He will
be forever missed but his spirit lives on.
Linus was predeceased by his parents Mary (Murphy) and
Phillip O'Donnell, brother Hugh Roe O'Donnell, and
brothers-in laws John DiGiulio and William Shanahan,
and his wife's parents Margaret and Pasquale DiGiulio.
He is also recently predeceased by dear friend and
Harvard teammate, Brian J. Buckley.
He is survived by his wife Nancy DiGiulio and her
family, Patricia Shanahan, Pamela and Thomas Burkardt,
Steven and Cathy DiGiulio, and numerous nieces and
nephews that brought him immense joy and laughter.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 4,
2022 from 4pm to 8pm in the J.S. Waterman-Langone
Chapel, 580 Commercial St., Boston. COMPLIMENTARY
VALET PARKING ATTENDANTS AT FRONT DOOR. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April
5, 2022 at 10am in St. Leonard Church, 320 Hanover
St., Boston. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial will be
private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital, Memphis Tennessee in the
hope that no one, but especially no child, should ever
have to suffer the pain and struggle of a cancer
battle.
